BearWalks Privacy Policy

Last updated 2 September 2026

BearWalks is a daily step leaderboard for university students. This policy describes exactly what the app collects, what other people can see, and how to remove it. It is short because the app collects very little.

Health data

With your permission, BearWalks reads one value from Apple Health: your daily step count. Nothing else in Health is requested or read.

Your daily step totals are stored on our servers so the leaderboard can rank them. Health data is never used for advertising, never sold, never shared with data brokers, and never stored in iCloud.

What you provide

What other people can see

People signed into BearWalks at your school can see your display name, your photo, your Instagram handle if you added one, and your step totals.

You can turn on Go dark at any time on the profile screen. While it is on you disappear from every leaderboard and every group, your own steps keep counting, and your history is preserved.

Accounts

If you allow notifications, BearWalks stores the push token Apple assigns your device so the server can tell you when someone passes you or how yesterday's board ended. It is deleted with your account, and Apple retires it when you delete the app.

There is no login, no password and no email address. The app creates an anonymous account on your device to identify your entries.

Deleting your data

Delete my account, on the profile screen, immediately and permanently removes your name, photo, Instagram handle and every step total we hold. This cannot be undone.

Service providers

Step totals and profiles are stored with Supabase, which hosts our database and file storage. Supabase processes this data only to operate the service.

Children

BearWalks is intended for university students and is not directed at children under 13.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it.
